New sports book unveiled at the Cromwell Las Vegas; lower minimum bets on table games

Retired four-time world boxing champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley (pictured) helped the 38-year-old Cromwell Las Vegas debut its new 50-seat sports book by placing the first ceremonial bet on Tuesday, according to Vegas Inc.

The casino’s newest addition is loca 7BALL CC ted on the Las Vegas Strip property’s northeast corner and features a 32×9 foot LED video wall and a 9×5 foot LED odds wall, which is viewable from various part of the casino.

The Cromwell also reportedly recently began offering EZ Baccarat, single “0” roulette, 100 times odds on craps and 3-to-2 payout on blackjack in double-deck and shoe games. According to the news agency, in order to make the tables accessible to more people, the casino lowered the minimum bets on many of them.

Complaints by industry experts reportedly claim properties on The Strip are losing customers due to casinos offering games that weight too heavily in the house’s favor. The recent changes at the property owned by the Caesars Entertainment Corporation have officials there feeling optimistic about having addressed some of the concerns.

The Cromwell’s general manager, Blake Segal, said they think it’s a calculated risk. “And while there is some amount of discounting off the current base of revenues, we hope that this appeals to a larger audience and they’ll find their way here and make up the discounting and then some. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be doing it, obviously,” explained Segal.

Vegas Inc reports that according to Segal, the changes are a good fit with the old school Las Vegas feel of the Cromwell and given the stiff competition on the Strip, necessary.

Segal said, “Given that we only have 188 rooms, (the Cromwell) is a property that needs to rely on visitation from outside the building,” He added, “And we find this to be a way to drive a person off the Las Vegas Strip and into the property. And for locals, well obviously the locals market will go to a local property to game. But now they can come to the Las Vegas Strip and have a place to game as well.”
